Topping It Off

Topping It Off

Good morning/afternoon/evening my dear Lizteners,

I haven’t formally wished you all a Happy New Year so consider this the equivalent to a fancy, handwritten letter in which I’d hope nothing but peace, joy and happiness for each and every one of you. With that out of the way, let’s have a little chat about this current weather situation I’m experiencing in Luxembourg: RAIN!! every. single. day. I say no more to that… pleaseee. But before it was raining, there was quite a bit of snowfall! And no, I’m not trying to sound pathetic over here while my friends in NYC have been literally drowning in it, but I’m just trying to basically express my empathy over here. Anyways, while any normal functioning human being’s reaction to heavy snowfall would be to snuggle up by the fire place, watch a Rom-Com and drink some sort of hot beverage, mine was to stuff a carry-on full of clothes, pull myself together and head out right into the icy action with my dad (aka my personal photographer) by my side: And so these pics were born.

My primary idea behind this post was to show you how you can make outerwear (my favorite fashion item besides sunnies and handbags) the centerpiece of your outfit. Coats, jackets, blazers you name it – I’m the first one to obsess over the latest and greatest in outerwear hence I obtained the title of ‘Queen of Outerwear’ at my first internship at Tod’s in NYC by my co-workers. Without further ado, let me show you how I styled three different outerwear pieces that will keep you both warm and looking ‘oh-so-stylish’.

  1. I’m not gonna go into much detail about the base of this outfit which consists of a black turtleneck, a black pleather skirt and some black combat boots. The key to having your coat POP is to keep everything else as neutral as possible. This green woolen coat I have on here is the definition of a statement piece. With its cropped sleeves and slightly boxier cut, it falls beautifully on my frame. It’s modern yet timeless and my advice to you buying your next coat is to step outside of your comfort zone: Get a color that’s maybe unexpected or a cut that makes you stand out. Believe it or not, you’ll end up wearing it a lot more than you actually think (& you’ll receive a lot more compliments on the way đŸ˜‰ For some reason I find animal printed accessories complimenting bright colors very well (if done wrong however, you can go from classy to trashy real quick so pick your accessories carefully – look at its fabric content and color way).

  • Coat: Femme by Michele Rossi
  • Beret: Sandro
  • Bag: Tod’s
  • Shoes: Eden
  • Turtleneck: Zara
  • Skirt: Zara

2. As for my second look, I decided to switch out my green coat for this shearling jacket. Shearling  jackets have been spotted on the FW18 runways from Kenzo to J.W. Anderson and are a trend that is sure to stay. I mean, can you blame them? They look just as cosy and warm as they actually are on. I love the hardware on mine, which is elevating this essentially very basic piece to a fashion statement. I topped it off with some matching shearling gloves and a fisherman’s hat I got in Stockholm. These hats have graced almost every influencer’s or model’s head and when I finally got my hands on one, I proudly confirmed the hype surrounding them: They look BOMB.

  • Jacket: Zara Studio Collection
  • Hat: Brixton

3. As for my third look, I decided to throw all of my preconceived notions of being a minimalist dresser out of the window: Because of its bright color and loud print, this coat is nothing but minimalistic. Maybe that’s exactly why I love it: It is so unique and different from every other coat I see people wearing. Apparently that wasn’t enough color so I decided to take it a step further and add a bright red scarf. Not only am I color blocking in that case, an ongoing trend in the industry that keeps on re-occuring, but I’m also snuggling up as temperatures are dropping. Don’t get me wrong, I love my navy and black and white tones, but rocking color here and there is my way of having fun with my style. If you’re not quite there yet, try to introduce a colorful accessory into your look and see how you feel about it. As you’re getting more and more adventurous, go for that fabulous coat you say at the store and you’ve been eyeing but weren’t courageous enough to buy. Well this is me telling you to go for it, because you’ll look great in no matter what you wear, as long as you wear it with grace and confidence.

  • Coat: Yileste
  • Scarf: Galeries Lafayette

I hope you enjoyed this little 3-in-1 lookbook. I look forward to sharing with you my next blog post. Spoiler Alert: It’ll be mouth-watering…

Talk to you soon loves,

Liz
