Happy Friday Lizteners,
WOW! Can you believe we’re one day away from New Year’s Eve, which means that 2017 is less than 48 hours away!! Anyways, I’m kinda losing track of time as I’m constantly on the road and discovering new and interesting things, such as the Salvation Mountain, which I’m featuring in this post. I first heard about this landmark a couple of years ago on Germany’s Next Topmodel (don’t judge guys, us Luxembourgers love watching it, because sometimes there’s one of us competing in the show and the entire country is rooting for her, understandably. Even though we usually don’t make it very far, we are not giving up hope haha). So as I was saying, the Salvation Mountain was featured on the show and I was completely obsessed with this mysterious, ultra colorful mountain in the middle of the Californian desert, so ever since then it was on my list of places to visit.
It was founded by Leonard Knight in 1984 and he used it as a platform to express his love for God. It then quickly grew into a worldwide phenomenon and people from all over the world come visit. What’s special about it is that it is entirely made out of adobe, straw and thousands of gallons of lead-free paint. Leonard, who is embarrassed to call himself an artist, only used materials that he found laying around. Although you aren’t allowed to step onto the mountain, I was able to snap quite a few pictures of the surroundings and the mountain itself of course. It was definitely worth making a detour for!
I’m wearing an all COS outfit, keeping things very minimalistic and monochromatic, because I wanted the artwork to speak for itself.
Have a nice rest of your day!
xx – Liz
